Hello,
My name is Steven Exum I currently am wraping up my student teaching and will be done at the end of the month. I am working towards my single subject credential in art and masters in educational technology. I just recently took the CSET in PE and have added the content area to my credential which is why I am currently retaking TED 633. I chose the education profession for the reward of changing young lives. I graduated from the University of Redlands just about two years ago. I had a job in LA for Sony Entertainment as a graphic designer but wasn't the most fulfilling job, I started teaching art/graphic design classes on the weekends and fell in love with it.Once I started subbing I landed a few Physical Education jobs and also enjoyed teaching them. I also coach, so PE and coaching seem to go hand in hand.
I took the Kisa personality test and scored a "Introverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving". After reading the description of this personality I have to agree with the assessment. I agree that I am an introvert at times but when it comes to the classroom I know how to grab students attention and keep order. I am more introverted in social interactions rather than leadership roles where I know how I am supposed to act.
I believe the Innovative part of my personality results helps me a lot in PE as I can be very creative both in Physical Education activities as well as creating projects and assignments for students. I believe my personality did not affect my choice of content. I do believe that being "Introverted Intuitive" will help me build personal relationships with students as I will high hold importance to personal interactions and discussions.
For the learning styles quiz I took the NC University test and scored the highest in Visual 11/11. This is no surprise to me as I always have been a visual learner and this is most likely the reason I ended up getting my bachelor's in Graphic Design. This will help me out greatly in teaching because I will easily be able to convey to students different physical fundamentals. It may be a little challenging for me to demonstrate these skills by only verbal communication however a majority of PE projects require visual demonstrations anyways. I believe my students will benefit from my visual abilities as many of my given assignments and demonstrations will rely heavily on visual cues. I will keep in mind to cater to all learning styles not only visual.
